The images of Robert Haines are painstakingly composed and manipulated to create psychically charged explorations of the nature of childhood and the process of self-discovery. They draw on influence from the portrait paintings by Rennaisance artists such as Van Eych and Lucas Cranach. There is also an element of the early photographic portrait studio. The rewoeking of the imagery encompases childhood memory or half-remembered dreams created from personal memories and dreams. Class, childhood expectation and evil are touched upon.
Exploring the photographic potentil of fabricated worlds the expressive work experience is solitary and the open ended goal is less about finding answers than about achieving a position that leads to more questions At first glance the images look amusing but the deeper you look the darker it gets. They remain ambiguous. They encourage People come up with personal interpretations. The work is direced towards the creative consiousness of the viewer. Unsettling, a prophetic crow, like a messanger warns us of something dark on the horizon.
